Chiropractic is . . .

A system of healthcare which deals with disturbances to the biomechanics of the spine, and their effects on the nervous system and general health of the body. Nerve irritation can be caused by spinal joint dysfunction leading to low back and neck pain and a multitude of other conditions.

Chiropractors are trained to detect and correct areas of spinal nerve interference thus allowing the body to restore normal nerve function. In this way the cause of the problem can be removed.

Chiropractic is a safe, effective and natural form of treatment for all ages that focuses on the body’s inbuilt ability to heal rather than using drugs and surgery.

Your First Visit

On your arrival, the receptionist will give you a form to fill in and will help you if you require assistance.

Your Chiropractor will take a full case history regarding your current problem, previous health history and any other relevant details. A full examination of your spine will be performed and other areas relevant to your complaint will be performed. This often involves postural, structural, neurological, orthopaedic and motion testing. Many patients will also be treated on their first visit unless X-ray examination is required.

X-Ray Examination

If an X-ray examination is necessary it can be performed immediately, on site at the clinic. Most spines develop symmetrically and go through a normal aging process. However accidents, bad posture and mechanical overload can accelerate this process locally.

An X-ray may reveal bone and joint disease and give valuable information on joint development, wear and tear, as well as postural and structural variations. This may assist in making a complete diagnosis.

Report Of Findings

On your second visit your Chiropractor will review your examination and X-rays if needed, and with the help of models and illustrations will explain the problem you have. Your Chiropractor will discuss your options with you, recommend a treatment program and then commence treatment. If your problem is not likely to respond to chiropractic then you will be referred to your GP or an appropriate specialist.

Treatment Programs

Your program is tailored to your individual needs to give the fastest and best results. A program may include:

The Treatment Itself

Involves a program of gentle and specific spinal adjustments, work on the muscles, ligaments and joints and other methods that your Chiropractor considers suitable for your condition. Chiropractic manipulation is safe and precise, and local joint noises may be heard as joints release.
